 Notices in the Countryside

If you get out and about there is a chance you have seen one of our notices on a right of way.

Due to impending changes in the Law we, as mechanically propelled vehicle users, now find ourselves in the position where if we wish to continue using many old roads we must place claims to have them recorded as Byway Open to All Traffic.

This task was originally that of the Local Council, but its a task that even after 35 years they have failed to complete.

So, we are now faced with placing claims to protect the rights that exist and that we rely on to use these routes before, under pressure from other countryside user groups the Government extinguishes them. If we do not claim these routes the Rights for vehicles over many old roads will be lost forever.

An unfortunate by-product of this process is that, By Law we must place a notice at each end of an affected route to inform the Landowner or occupier of our intentions. Countryside users can rest assured that once a suitable period of time has elapsed the signs and associated cable ties will be removed.

More information can be found on the Hampshire County Council Website, here.

National Green Lane Day - Results

Although the lane was not completely cleared we feel this years event was a massive success. Well in excess of 50 volunteers from the Mechanically Propelled Vehicle (MPV) community turned up on the day to help clear this neglected lane. The scrub was removed and hedges trimmed along the majority of the length of the lane, opening it out to its correct width.

The results speak for themselves. A muddy tunnel of low value scrub has been returned to a hedged lane of useable width for walkers, cyclist, equestrians and MPV users to enjoy.

 National Green Lane Day

This month is National Green Lane Day. This now bi-annual event will see many of the local Mechanically Propelled Vehicle user groups coming together with Hampshire County Council and a local land owner under the umbrella of The Hampshire Paths Partnership Scheme to maintain local rights of way.

The subject of this Springs maintenance will be the U195AR, or Kiln Lane as it is better known near Worlds End, Denmead. This lane, once easily passable has become extremely overgrown in recent years and is now barely passable on foot. Our objective is to clear as much of the excess vegetation as possible, but its going to be quite a task!
